  1. Puzzle and Story Time

    • This is an appropriate Sunday school lesson for preschoolers or young Sunday school children. Place a wooden puzzle of the nativity scene, baby Jesus or any other advent scene on the table. Put the first piece in place and start the story of the nativity. Allow each child to place a puzzle piece and continue the next sentence of the nativity story. Continue the puzzle and story allowing each child to place a piece of the puzzle and add a sentence to the story. Finish the puzzle and story in this way. Encourage children to share the story of baby Jesus with other family members when they go home.

    Birth of Christ Nativity Skit

    • Ask children to bring all the accessories to create a Sunday School skit on the birth of Christ. Bring a baby doll, swaddling cloth, a white piece of fabric or a walking stick. You can even decorate and wrap three empty shoe boxes to be the gifts of the magi. Help children write the skit or use a prewritten dialogue. Give each child a part in the skit. Allow children a few minutes to read through their parts. Set the scene and ask children to act out the Christmas nativity scene.

    Manger Craft

    • Read the children the story of the birth of Christ. Ask for their opinions about why this was such an important event. You can also read Mathew 2, verses 1 through 12, to familiarize the children with the story. To make children really understand and visualize the importance of the birth of Christ you can have them make a stable and manger from craft sticks and glue. Make this a class project. Let the children paint the outside of the stable and the manger to make it more lifelike. You can make nativity scene characters them out of clay. Place a little hay in the stable and manger to make the nativity scene more realistic.

    Baby Jesus Collage

    • Ask children to tell you the story of baby Jesus. Help them if they have problems remembering the different parts of the story. Explain that Jesus was a special baby and tell them why. Reinforce the story by making a baby Jesus collage. Ask children to cut out pictures of babies from magazines as you are telling the story and reading Bible verses such as like Luke 2, verse 40; Matthew 4, verses 23 through 24; or John 13, verse 34. You can also cut out baby things like baby bottles, rattles and toys. Cut small pieces of fabric to use as baby blankets. Tell the children to glue the baby pictures to construction paper. When they finish tell them to glue the baby blanket on the baby. Write: "Jesus was Special" on the top of each finished baby collage.
