Whether you're ushering in a new season or preparing for a product launch, you can rid your store of inventory by reducing prices and putting the items on clearance. Ensure that your clearance items make it out the doors with interested customers by alerting customers about your pricing specials. There are many easy ways to sell clearance items, and using a combination of methods can increase your chances of getting sales.
Place in a Prominent Location
Whether you run an online store or a brick-and-mortar operation, product positioning is important when you're attempting to easily sell clearance items. In your brick-and-mortar location, place clearance items near the front of the store, close to the checkout, in an area with a sign that says "clearance," to attract your customer's attention.
Use neatly arranged shelving units to display items. If you operate an online store, create a section specially marked "Clearance Items" on your website. Under this section, include pictures and pricing for each of the items you're offering at clearance pricing.
Use Email Marketing
Email marketing helps business owners communicate sales, tips and news directly to their customers' email inboxes. If you have products or services you're offering at clearance pricing, craft a marketing message you can email to the customers on your email marketing list. Indicate which items are on clearance, as well as when the clearance sale begins and ends. You can also encourage your customers to pass your email along to their friends and family, who may also be interested in your products or services. Email marketing can work for both online stores and brick-and-mortar establishments.
Remind Customers at Checkout
During checkout, have your sales associates draw customers' attention to the clearance section of your store. They can say something like, "We have a selection of items on clearance. Did you have an opportunity to browse the selection?"
You can also use your website's shopping cart technology to offer customers clearance items as they go through the checkout process on your website. Include language on the checkout page that says, "Did you check out our clearance section?" and link the language to the clearance section of your online store.
Promote Clearance on Social Media
Use social media to your advantage by reaching out to customers and potential customers on platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, to spread the word about your clearance. These platforms allow you to share information about your clearance sale, and also allow your customers to do the same, all while helping to increase your visibility.
Before you announce your clearance sale, take a look at your inventory and decide which items you can package as bundle deals.
