PSP System Specs
Initially released in 2005, the PlayStation Portable (PSP) is Sony's first handheld gaming machine. Games are played on small discs or stored on the system's hard drive. In addition to gaming, users can watch films, store music and other data and access wireless LAN connections. There have been several iterations of the PSP, including the PSP Go and the PSP 3000.

PSP 3000 Physical Specs

The original model of PSP has gone through several iterations and the 3000 is the latest version as of April 2011. The 3000 is 6.7 inches wide by 2.7 inches high by 0.7 inches deep and weighs 189 grams. The system's screen measures 4.3 inches and has a 16:9 ratio. Along with USB ports, the PSP has a built-in Universal Media Disc drive for playing games and movies. The PSP saves data on expendable memory sticks.

The PSP 3000 features a 333 MHz processor. The device is region-encoded, locking out foreign films and games, and has parental control settings. The PSP 3000 supports a number of video codecs, including MPEG-4 Simple Profile, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile and Motion JPEG. It also supports audio codecs that include ATRAC3, ATRAC3plus, MP3 and WMA. The PSP 3000 features standard photo codecs such as JPEG, BMP and GIF.

PSP Go Physical Specs

The PSP Go is physically quite different from the PSP 3000. The biggest difference between the PSP Go and the PSP 3000 is the Go's lack of a UMD drive. Games have to be downloaded wirelessly to the system's hard drive. The PSP Go also features a screen that slides up and down to cover the system's buttons and directional pad. The system measures 128 mm wide by 69 mm high by 16.5 mm deep and weighs 158 grams. The screen measures 3.8 inches and has a 16:9 ratio.

Many of the hardware specifications for the PSP Go are similar to the PSP 3000, including it's 333 MHz processor, parental controls and supported codecs. However, there are a few small hardware differences, including a 16 mb flash memory and support for blue tooth technology.
