The attention of first-graders must be captured and held by colorful, creative and interesting lesson presentations for effective learning to occur. First-graders learn faster when the learning material is engaging and interesting. As a result, their attention span increases. History games for first-graders can provide opportunities for students to learn about history in a fun, inspiring and interactive way. Some games are available online, and others can be obtained from a local bookstore.

  1. Presidents

    • Name that President is a fun games for first-graders. After teaching students about each U.S. president, students are presented with a picture of a president, such as Thomas Jefferson, Ronald Reagan or Grover Cleveland. First-graders must guess which president it is. This game is designed to prepare first-graders for recognition and understanding of important people in society.     States

    American History

Students also learn history through the eyes of particular characters, such as Molly's World, Josefina's World and Samantha's World.

    World History

    • First-graders can also learn about World History on the AOL Learning site. Students play games dealing with pictures and maps of the Great Wall of China, famous world landmarks in World Landmarks, Viking people and their discoveries, Iron Age Celts and Kid's Castle. Students learn what people around the world were like centuries ago. These games are effective at helping students understand world history lessons taught in the classroom.
