People that are less hands-on and more suited to business transactions could use their expertise as a buyer or wine merchant.

Anyone interested in learning about the wine-making process could seek out positions in wineries or vineyards. Positions exist that involve preparing grapes for wine processing. These positions often occur inside the winery and involve de-stemming, pressing, removing the juice and even barrel preparation. Qualifications range from college degrees in a related field to substantial work experience in the industry.
Work on Vineyards

People who enjoy working outside might try working as a vineyard assistant. The duties will require some knowledge of environmental science, horticulture or plant science. Working as vineyard assistant is usually seasonal. The busiest time is from June to October, depending on where in the United States the vineyard is located. Duties can include crop estimation, grape sampling and even assisting with the harvest. Vineyard assistants also spend long periods of time outside doing physically demanding work, so a degree of strength and fitness is required.

Wine educators often work at wineries and educate people on the various types of wine they offer. Knowledge of wines is needed for this position as well as public speaking skills. Wineries often have wine tasting exhibits for the public. Assistants are needed to prepare the tasting room and assist the host. A knowledge of wine is helpful, but being personable with good customer service skills is essential.
