Tools and Tips for Adobe Reader
PDF files allow documents to be viewed on both Apple and PC operating systems without changing any part of the way the document is viewe. Sometimes documents are altered when one word processed document is moved to another platform. Adobe Reader is one way of viewing PDF files and can be downloaded from the Internet. There are a few tips that can enable you to get the most out of this program.

Opening and Saving a PDF

If you can't open a PDF it might be password protected. You need to enter the correct password to open the document. Other document securities can include restrictions to copying, editing and printing a PDF document. In Reader, any restricted features will be dimmed from the menu. If you get an error message saying "one or more Adobe PDF Extensions are disabled," then open the computer Control Panel. Select "Internet Options." Select the "Enable Third-Party Browser Extensions" check box. Click "OK" and restart the computer. Attempt to open the file again. Files can only be saved if the PDF author allows.
Snapshot Tool

To copy images from a PDF click on "Edit." Click on "Take a Snapshot." Draw a rectangle around the image that you wish to save and let go of the mouse button. The image will be saved on the clipboard. Open the application you wish to use the image in. Click on "Edit." Click on "Paste" to copy the image into the new application.

Commenting

You can comment on a PDF by adding sticky notes and highlighting text. These tools can be selected from the tool bar and added to the document you are viewing, which can be useful if making notes from the document. Delete comments by right-clicking in the pop-up note and choosing "Delete," or clicking on the reply in the "Comments" list and selecting "Delete" from the menu.
Forms

A number of PDF documents have forms that can be filled in by the user prior to printing. These forms cannot be saved by the user unless the PDF author allows it. When you open the form you can view the usage rights in the "Notifications" area above the form.
