Christmas Garland Ideas With Ribbons
A Christmas tree gets new style when you use a garland of ribbon rather than the usual string of beads, popcorn or tinsel garland. Carry the ribbon garland theme throughout your home by replacing the evergreen garland with it. Vary the widths, sizes and colors of the garland for a more interesting design. Dress the tree with the special mementos you use each year, such as the handmade ornament from your child when he was 5 or the one the two of you found during your honeymoon. But when it comes time to add the garland, pick a wide metallic ribbon instead. Weave the ribbon through the branches, behind the ornaments and around the lights. Fill in any gaps in the tree by adding a ribbon bow to the area.

Work a festive holiday-themed ribbon of red, green or Christmas print between the base of the candle holders or around candelabra on the mantel. Gather several ribbons together to give it more substance and crinkle them together in a loose design. Drape them along the edge of the mantel and dangle the garland down the sides. Weave the ribbon garland through the stocking holders sitting on the mantel.

Decorate your staircase for the holidays with ribbon garland. Twist two Christmas colors together, such as red and white, and weave the garland around the banister on the diagonal to resemble a candy cane or wrap them up the posts and around the spokes, again on the diagonal. Or braid several red and green ribbons together and create a swag coming down the banister and along the sides of the steps.

Bring ribbon garland to other areas of the home. Swag twisted red and green garland around the curtain rod or on the front of a cornice, or use it to tie the drapes back. Group large sections of the same color ribbon together and tie it at 2-inch intervals and drape it along the edge of the ceiling and the tops of doors. Weave it between picture frames on shelves, around a table centerpiece or down the length of a table.
