Colors of Curtains

Save

Far from a simple accent accessory, curtains play a large part in the overall aesthetic of a room. Although some are as see-through as gossamer and others are as opaque enough to block out the sun entirely, all come in a variety of colors that match any style of room.

White

  • Available in materials as light as lace and as heavy as polyester, white is one of the most popular colors for curtains. This color complements white molding as well as white, yellow and blue interior color schemes.

Cream

  • Warmer and easier on the eyes than white, cream is a popular color curtain that goes well with natural wood and light and dark color schemes. Although compatible with many colors, cream can appear dirty or old in a white room.

Red

  • A dark and rich color, red absorbs more light than lighter colors and darkens the room more when closed. This color also comes in various shades from bright fire engine to dark satin and maroon.

Sage

  • A muted shade of green, sage is an organic color that works well not only with several color schemes, but also with house plants and organic artwork. This neutral color will not absorb much interior ambient light while closed even as it blocks out the sunny exterior.

Chocolate

  • Dark brown or chocolate suits natural wood, white and cream walls. This color absorbs a great deal of interior light and can reduce the perceived size of a room when the curtains close.

Plaid

  • A mixture of different colors, plaid suits different color schemes depending on its dominant color. Although not as popular as white or red, plaid curtains create a distinctive look for any room.

Purple

Silver

  • Used as both an accent color and occasionally as a main color for curtains, silver makes the room look like an unopened present. This color works well with cool neutrals but can clash with cream or yellow colors.

Gold

  • Another color often used only to line the edges or provide accent to other colors of curtains, gold is a highly visible and luxurious color. This color adds character and color to black and red shades of curtain.
