If your body overheats it can lead to heat stroke if not treated immediately after the signs and symptoms first appear. If the symptoms advance to a heat stroke then it could cause permanent damage or even death. This is why it is important to be aware of the symptoms of overheating so you can immediately stop the activity that is causing the overheating. After that, you should move to a cool and safe environment.
Nausea, Fever & Vomiting
When a person begins to overheat he becomes dehydrated, which typically leads to a feeling of intense nausea. He will often have episodes of vomiting. When these symptoms occur, he should person get out of the heat and into a cool place as quickly as possible. He should also consume fluids. If he cannot keep any fluids down, he should seek immediate medical attention to be given fluids intravenously.
When a person is in the process of overheating his mental clarity begins to dull. He is likely to start feeling irritable and unfocused. He also might become confused and lose control of his physical coordination. If these symptoms are left unchecked, he can become delirious and might even pass out.
One effect of dehydration is that the person will either pass urine in very small amounts or stop passing altogether. Any urine that comes out will have a dark color and very strong odor. This means the person needs to become hydrated as soon as possible.
Chills, Sweating & Dry Mouth
When a person begins overheating he will often find that his mouth is extremely dry. Regardless of how many fluids he drinks, he seems unable to quench his thirst. At the same time, the person who is overheated is likely to begin to alternate between sweating profusely and getting the chills. His complexion will begin to turn noticeably white or pale. Seek immediate medical help at this point.
