Alternatives to city recycling services include drop-off centers and metal recycling companies.

    • Browder Recycling (browderrecycling.com), located in San Marcos, Texas, 10 miles from Kyle, buys metals, including aluminum, steel and iron for recycling. Current prices fluctuate based on market prices for metal. The recycling center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Green Guy Recycling

    • Green Guy Recycling (greenguyrecycling.com) in San Marcos, Texas, is 10 miles from Kyle. The drop-off facility is open 24 hours a day. The company offers drop-off and buy-back centers and curbside pick-up of recyclable materials. Patrons pay a nominal fee to recycle air conditioners, refrigerators, oil filters, tires and computer monitors. The buy-back center pays for aluminum, iron, steel, copper, brass and other recyclable metals based on current market prices. The buy-back center is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Gardner Metal Recycling

    • Gardner Metal Recycling (gardnermetals.com) in Austin, Texas, is 20 miles outside Kyle, Texas. The facility buys scrap metal for recycling. The recycling center buys aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, high temperature alloys, electronics and iron. Rollaway containers in 20-, 30- and 40-cubic yard sizes are available for drop-off and pick-up at no charge. Smaller containers and containers with locking lids are available for precious metals. Gardner Metal Recycling has two locations in Austin, East 4th Street and Congress Avenue.

    American CatCon

    • American CatCon (americancatcon.com) is 8 miles from Kyle in Buda, Texas on US Route 35. The company buys old car parts, including alternators, starters and compressors and recycles the pieces for precious metal. American CatCon operates Monday to Thursday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    City of Kyle Recycling Program

    • The City of Kyle (cityofkyle.com) accepts recyclable materials. Plastic, metal, newspaper and glass must be placed in a container provided by the city for pick-up. Any recyclables placed in containers from other companies will not be picked up. Each household is given three 96-gallon containers, one each for household trash, recyclables and compost. Place containers 3 feet from the curb by 7 a.m. on the regularly scheduled trash day.
