The Disadvantages of Crest Whitestrips

Save

Rather than going to the dentist for an expensive treatment, Crest Whitestrips are a popular alternative to teeth whitening. For a fraction of the cost, Crest Whitestrips sometimes seem like the answer, but as with everything there are disadvantages to using the product. Knowing the disadvantages helps you decide if Crest Whitestrips are right for you.

Difficult to Apply and Stay On

  • Crest Whitestrips are difficult to apply because they are flimsy. One side has the whitening formula on it, and you have to be careful to hold it with both of hands so it does not flop and stick to itself. Once on, the strips sometimes become dislodged by saliva. It is also almost impossible to keep the mouth in a position where the strips aren't rubbing against the insides of the mouth, another cause of dislodged strips.

Discomfort

  • Tooth sensitivity is another disadvantage of Crest Whitestrips. These strips are made with a peroxide-based bleaching agent that sometimes inflames the nerves in teeth. Although the pain is temporary and does not cause long-term effects, it has the ability to make your whitening experience an unpleasant one.

Inconvenience

  • Depending on the type of Crest Whitestrips being used, the product must remain on the teeth for 20 to 30 minutes. If you have a busy schedule, your ability to talk or eat is going to be hindered. Plan accordingly to ensure the strips stay in place for the recommended amount of time.

Only Whitens Front Teeth

  • Crest Whitestrips only whiten the front teeth. If you have a wide smile, your back teeth are visible. If your front teeth are more white than the back teeth, there is a noticeable inconsistency of color, which defeats the purpose of using the product in the first place.
