GE Profile is a line of top-end appliances offered by the General Electric Corporation (GE). This line includes different refrigerators, and certain models come with ice and water dispensers. If your water dispenser is not working properly, GE recommends that you troubleshoot certain issues to avoid service fees and repair wait times.
Not Dispensing Water
If your GE Profile refrigerator water dispenser isn't releasing any water, completely close the refrigerator/freezer doors. Verify that the water supply line is connected to the refrigerator and that the water is turned on. Clean the water supply line and water filter if clogged with debris. Unscrew the nut on the water supply line, and disconnect the line from the refrigerator. Remove the line from the water inlet valve. Use a plastic utensil or toothpick to dig out debris caught in the line.
Replace the filter if it's old. Check that the filter cartridge is properly installed. You must place the cartridge blade vertically. If the refrigerator is too cold, water may freeze in the reservoir. Increase the temperature setting in the freezer, and allow the reservoir up to 24 hours to unfreeze. If it still doesn't work, call a service technician.
Your water is normally warm for the first 24 hours after you first install the dispenser. If you have just used a lot of water, allow the reservoir to cool down, which can take several hours. Your water may be warm if you have not used the dispenser for a long time. Hold a bucket under the dispenser, and depress the lever until the bucket fills up with between 2 and 3 gallons of water. Then allow the dispenser to refill with water.
If your GE Profile refrigerator water dispenser water has a bad taste, empty the reservoir if you have not used the dispenser for a long time. See if the water line or filter is clogged. You can disconnect the water supply line from the back of the refrigerator and the water inlet valve. Use a flashlight to look into it. If your water is heavily chlorinated or has a high mineral content, install a water filter on your water supply line.
A water dispenser normally releases a few drops after you let go of the lever. Hold your glass under the dispenser for two or three seconds after you release the lever. If water still leaks from the dispenser, you may have air in the line, especially if you just installed the refrigerator. Allow up to 72 hours for the air to escape. Or hold down the dispenser for two minutes. Verify that ice is not caught in the ice chute, which causes the dispensers to leak as the ice melts. If the dispenser still leaks, call a service technician. If you just installed a new filter cartridge, water may spurt out of the dispenser. Place a bucket under the dispenser, and hold the lever down for about three minutes.
