Free Energy Secrets

No one wants to feel tired, irritable and sluggish all day, but spending money on coffee and energy drinks every morning can add up to big bills at the end of the month. The best-kept secrets for natural and lasting energy are free and most can be accomplished everyday.

  1. Exercise

    • The benefits of daily exercise are vast and easily obtained. It may seem counterintuitive but exercising everyday or even a few days a week will give you much bigger supplies of energy than if you took a nap or grabbed another cup of coffee. A study conducted by the University of Georgia in 2006 analyzed 6,700 people who complained of fatigue. Ninety percent of the people who began daily exercise showed more improvement with their symptoms than those who did not. In addition, the increase in energy was greater than the improvement from stimulant medications.

    Fruit

    • Fruit is an amazing energy booster. Fruits like apples, oranges, berries and bananas are rich in fiber that will boost your energy by staving off hunger for longer periods of time than foods with little to no fiber, like refined flours and processed sugar. In addition, the glucose from fruit comes in predigested form, meaning your body doesn't have to expend any additional energy to utilize the glucose from the fruit. Make a fruit smoothie at home for free that will keep you full and energized for hours.

    Wear Brighter Colors

    • Colors have been shown to affect mood. Bright colors like red, yellow and orange increase blood flow and stimulation to the brain. People who see these colors on you will also get the same effects, and interacting with people who are energized will in turn make you feel energized. Try to incorporate bright colors in your wardrobe, even if you work in an office. Wear a bright blouse or tie under a suit jacket.

    Drink More Water

    • People commonly complain of fatigue when they are thirsty or dehydrated. Make sure you are drinking enough water, not just soda, coffee or juice. Coffee can be dehydrating, making the feeling of fatigue worse once the caffeine effects have worn off. Soda and juice with added sugar will also make you crash after the initial rush. Try drinking a glass of water upon waking for a quick morning energy boost. If you dislike the taste of plain water add slices of fruit.
