Ideas for Haunted Walks or Fields
It may be houses that are most famous for being haunted, but that's not to say that walks down lonely lanes or into isolated fields can't pack a real punch when it comes to fear too. Activities featuring haunted walks or fields are highly suitable for Halloween, but you and your friends can venture to these spooky locations at any time of year.

Graveyard Venue
-
If you happen to own a field, you can transform it into a spooky venue that's a suitable place to host a Halloween party by kitting it out as a graveyard. You can purchase plastic tombstones from stores or the Internet. Use heaps of earth to create burial mounds adjacent to the gravestones. You might opt instead to forge cross markers out of two pieces of wood bound together with rope or string and plant these in the ground.
Ghost Stories
-
A field, spooky lane or other stretch of land is a superb place to host a ghost story recital. You and your group can tell each other ghoulish tales, either of your own devising or inspired by local folklore as you walk through the night. If you'd like a longer storytelling session, create a campsite, complete with burning fire and tents and tell your tales while using a torch shone on your face for added effect. Ensure you've asked permission to camp if it's not your own land.

Spooky Trail
-
In preparation for this activity, you should walk the length of the location and arrange light sources, such as battery-operated tea-lights or candles, at regular intervals. During the evening, all other light sources are turned off and participants walk through the area either alone or in small groups; the idea is that the path is followed but only the previous and next light sources are visible at any time. If you want to scare participants witless, introduce creepy noises or screams as the groups walk, either using an audio recording or by asking helpers to make the sounds themselves.
Ghost Hunt
-
This activity takes a little more preparation and isn't for the faint of heart. Participants travel to a suitable field or area and attempt to spot supernatural activity in the area. At a basic level, you and your co-hunters might just enjoy being spooked out by spending several hours in a supposedly haunted location. More enthusiastic participants can bring ghost investigation equipment such as video cameras and audio recorders to monitor and log their findings during the night. Remember to check the area you'll be investigating during daylight hours for any hazards to health and safety, and to get permission from any relevant authorities beforehand.
