Arranged wedding seating is appropriate both for the ceremony and reception.

Couples usually choose to create a seating arrangement for larger weddings and wedding events. The more attendees that are at a wedding, the more necessary it is to have a seating arrangement because arrangements help to prevent confusion among your guests. Consider assigning seats if you plan on having more than 50 guests in attendance. There are a variety of methods and patterns that you should consider when creating a seating arrangement.

  1. The Number System

    • Assign seats for your guests at your wedding to help make seating guests more efficient. Study your RSVP's and make a list of how many people are arriving in each party. Label the backs of chairs or pews with numbers. Have a friend or family member seat each group of people that arrive in the appropriate place. This will ensure that the parties who arrive together are seated together. The number method is helpful as you can organize seating in multiple patterns such as standard or curved rows.

    Sections

    • When creating the seating arrangement, some couples choose to divide up sections into bride and groom sections. Often one side of the room, or outdoor layout, is reserved for people who were invited by the bride, and the other side is reserved for the groom's guests. This is an easy method of seating as you don't have to assign your guests a particular seat number. You are merely assigning a large section with many seating options.

    Tables

    • Set up individual tables and label the place settings with a name card. This makes it easy for your guests to figure out where you would like them to sit. When you are organizing this layout, take care so that you don't sit people next to one another who don't get along. This is especially important in this type of arrangement as small tables create a more intimate setting than assigned pew seating.

    Prevention

    • Assigned seats help prevent chaos, as people are directed to a specific area, which eliminates the need to walk around and carefully choose their own seating preference. Assigned seating also ensures that your closest family members and friends will have preferred seating. Keep in mind that people with young children or physical disabilities might be more comfortable in certain areas of the room or setting. Seat people with young children near an exit in case they need to leave for a bit during the ceremony. Seat physically disabled guests near the front or at least at the end of an aisle so that they can see the ceremony and maneuver easier.
