Business cards make your babysitting business look professional.

If you want your babysitting business to flourish, it is a good idea to come up with a marketing strategy that involves business cards. Business cards are an effective and low-cost way to advertise and spread the word about your babysitting services. You can create your own business cards using a template program on your computer or pay a professional company to design and make them for you.

  1. Professionalism

    • Your business card is a reflection of your company and of you, so it is important to keep the cards professional. Even though you are advertising a business for children's services, avoid using cutesy words and childish slang, such as "goo-goo, ga-ga." You do not have to sacrifice professionalism to make your business cards stand out. Instead, come up with a one-line slogan that sounds professional and will stick with your prospective clients.

    Eye-Catching

    • Business cards for a babysitting service should be eye-catching so that potential clients remember your business. You can accomplish this by giving your card a colorful background, using a thicker card stock, putting your font in a metallic texture or creating an interesting logo for your business that you put on the top of your card. If you use images, keep them simple.

    Legibility

    • Prospective clients will toss out your business card if they cannot read it. Many busy parents do not have time to guess what your card says. Accordingly, the card font you select must be legible, so that clients can contact you and set up an appointment with ease. This includes selecting a medium-size font that is straight -- and not too curly or decorative. In a June 2010 article in "Inc." magazine, "How to Choose the Best Business Card for Your Company," Josh Spiro writes that the best fonts for business cards are Times New Roman and Helvetica. Fonts also must have a contrasting color with the background of the card. Fonts that are too light, such as pastel colors, blend into the background and become difficult to read. Instead, use black, navy blue or magenta pink because bold colors stand out more.

    Information

    • Your business card is the place to show off your credentials. If you have a four-year degree, a master's or any certifications or special training, list the credentials on your business card after your name. If you specialized in a child-related study in college, write out the entire name of your program, such as "Bachelor of Arts in Child Development." This gives you a chance to impress prospective clients and makes you stand out among the other babysitters in town. In addition to credentials, you need to provide your contact information on your business card. Your phone number and email address are essential.
