Repurpose plastic pails into Easter baskets.

Skip the traditional Easter basket made from wicker and use your creativity to make your own Easter basket. Make this a family craft by getting kids involved in creating their own Easter baskets. What's best is that you don't have to spend a lot of money on these do-it-yourself ideas. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Straw Hat

    • Flip a straw hat or bonnet upside down and turn it into an Easter basket. Ribbon detailing can be laced through the brim of the hat as handles. After the Easter eggs and goodies filling the hat are gone, the hat can be worn as an accessory.

    Soda Bottle Basket

    • Recycle a 2-liter soda bottle into an Easter basket by cutting off the top half of the bottle using an Exacto-knife. Cut a slit on each side of the bottle and insert handles made from pipe cleaners. Secure the pipe cleaners by bending the ends upward. Hot glue a ribbon to the top edge of the plastic basket and use stickers and other detailing to decorate it for Easter.

    Plastic Pail

    • Repurpose a plastic pail as an Easter basket. The pail comes with a handle and has ample space to stash Easter treats. Decorate a pastel-colored pail with Easter-themed stickers. After the chocolate bunnies are eaten, kids can use the pail to play in the sand.

    Strawberry Easter Basket

    • Save those little green baskets your strawberries come in and use them as Easter baskets. Weave different colors of ribbon in and out of the openings in the strawberry basket, and use a wire, a pipe cleaner or ribbon as a handle.
