Basics
-
Frozen fruit provides the proper consistency for a blended frozen fruit drink, while also reducing waste, as frozen fruit does not go bad. Search for frozen fruit brands that do not contain added sugar or high fructose corn syrup. When freezing fruits yourself, peel and slice them before putting them in the freezer so they are easier to work with. Riper fruit is the sweetest to taste.
Add liquids to the blender before adding frozen fruit to get a better idea of volume, as frozen fruit drinks expand as you blend them. You can adjust the volume and thickness of your drink by adding more fruit or liquid. When you are finished with the blender, fill it with water or wash it immediately to avoid a sticky mess that is difficult to clean later.
Smoothies
-
Smoothies satisfy thirst and hunger, and are easily adaptable to suit your dietary needs. To make a frozen fruit smoothie, use 1 cup of base liquid such as milk, soy milk, orange juice or another fruit juice. Add up to 1 cup of the assorted frozen fruits of your choice, such as strawberries, pineapple, blueberries or raspberries and blend together. You can also boost the nutrition of your smoothie by adding yogurt, flax seeds, silken tofu, wheat germ or protein powder. To create a dessert-like smoothie, add ice cream, sorbet or frozen yogurt.

Slushies
-
A frozen fruit slushie is a light, iced frozen fruit drink. Slushies are fun for kids and less filling than a smoothie because they are less thick. To make a frozen fruit slushie, start with 1 cup of the fruit juice of your choice, such as pineapple, apple, grape or orange juice. Add 1 cup of assorted frozen fruits and blend together. The frozen fruit will add to the icy quality, but you can also add 1 cup of crushed ice to make it crunchier.
Daiquiris and Margaritas
-
Daiquiris and margaritas are delicious cocktails. A daiquiri uses rum, while a margarita is made with tequila. To create a frozen fruit daiquiri or margarita, begin with a splash of orange juice. Add 2 tsp. fresh lime juice. Pour in ¼ cup rum for a daiquiri; use tequila for a margarita. Follow with 2 cups of your favorite frozen fruit, such as mango, strawberries or peaches. Blend on high and serve in a cocktail glass. For a margarita, rub the outer rim of the glass with a lime and roll the edge of the glass in salt or sugar, prior to adding your frozen fruit margarita.
