Christian Games for Fourth and Fifth Graders
Fourth and fifth graders can be very competitive as well as energetic. They take games seriously and like to win. Christian games for fourth and fifth graders need to include enough challenge to engage the students and enough mental and physical activity to keep them active so they don't lose interest due to boredom.
-
True or False
-
Set up a starting and ending line. Play a game using true and false statements that focus on the Biblical lesson being taught. Divide the children into teams. Call out a statement, such as "Moses was born in Egypt." Teams discuss and choose true or false for their answer. Once the teams give you their answer, you provide the correct one. The team or teams with the correct answer take a step forward. The team or teams that answer incorrectly must take a step backward. For another activity, have the children compete individually or as teams. List several statements on the board. For each one ask, "Is it true?" The first person or team with the correct answer receives a point. Add a Biblical reference to the question. The first person or team who not only answers correctly but also reads the text from the Bible as proof wins the point.
Puzzle it Out
-
Memorizing Bible verses is part of a Sunday school lesson. Put together a word search with the words from the verse hidden in the square. Have your fourth and fifth graders look up the verse in the Bible and find the hidden words, circling them as they find them. Print copies of the verse in large text. Cut the verse into separate words and place them in envelopes. Pair up the fourth and fifth graders. Have them put the words of the Bible verse together in the correct order.

Fighting Sin
-
Use paper towel or gift wrap rolls as mock weapons. Your fourth and fifth graders might enjoy decorating their weapons. Mark the center of a table. Divide the fourth and fifth graders into teams on each side of the table. Label cotton balls, ping pong balls or other small balls with "sins," such as cheating, lying, being unkind or swearing. Explain that God's word and prayer can help them fight the temptation to sin and help them to be the kind and caring persons they want to be. The object of the game is to blow the sin balls to the other team's side of the table through the weapon tubes. This game can also be played on the floor.
What Is That Song?
-
Many fourth and fifth graders have attended church and Sunday school for years and learned songs about the Bible and faith. Divide the fourth and fifth graders into teams. Play a few bars of Sunday school songs, such as "This Little Light of Mine," "Be Careful Little Eyes" and "Jesus Loves Me." Challenge them with choruses and hymns sung in church, such as "He Lives," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "I've a Story to Tell to the Nations." The team that provides the correct song title first wins a point. If neither team gets the answer correctly the first time, play more of the song until the correct answer is given.
