Christian Water Games

Get your ministry members outside and enjoying water fun.

There are plenty of ways to get wet while playing outside at a Christian camp or church picnic. Youth groups especially love a good water game that is both messy and fun. From slippery limbo to inner tube water polo, Christian water games allow kids, teens and adults to let loose and play while bonding as a family of God.

Slippery Limbo

Taking a cue from the childhood favorite Slip n' Slide, you will need a tarp or large garbage bags for Slippery Limbo. Add water and a little bit of dish washing detergent to the tarp. Set up a typical limbo game and have participants limbo across the slippery tarp. Slipping and falling is a disqualification. Be sure to do this on a lawn or place some mats underneath to avoid injuries.

Blind Water Balloon Volleyball

Find a waterproof, non-transparent divider such as a shower curtain to serve as your volleyball "net." Have two teams sit on either side of the net with a pile of water balloons. Teams toss water balloons over the net and the rival side needs to try to catch them before they hit the ground. Neither team should be able to see through the net, which makes catching the water balloons much more difficult -- and fun.

Innertube Water Polo

If your church has access to a swimming pool, this game makes for a fun, competitive sport during a summer gathering. Played basically like traditional water polo, all players must float around in an inner tube during the entire game. Game length is customarily two 20-minute halves. Have an inexpensive trophy or other special prize for the winning team -- especially if playing with a youth group or other group of young people.

Dolphin Relay Race

To play this game, all you need is a swimming pool, a beach ball and teenagers with a lot of energy. Divide your youth group or other church ministry into teams and give them a beach ball. Teams race one player at a time across the pool length, pushing their beach ball along using only their noses. They cannot use their hands at any time or else they are disqualified. This game makes for some great photo ops and a lot of laughs.
