Cake makeup, on the other hand, is solid and dry to the touch, requiring you to mix in water with the makeup before application. You can also apply cake makeup with a brush, but the effect of the cake makeup will not be as intense as cream makeup because cream makeup offers more coverage than cake makeup.

Theatrical makeup artists understand that powder is the key to long-lasting makeup. Powder sets the makeup on the skin, making the makeup less prone to smearing or fading. Use a translucent loose powder and a powder puff for best results. After the makeup has been applied, load the puff with powder, then quickly and lightly pat the powder over the makeup. Remove excess powder with a clean makeup brush, dabbing lightly around the face painting design.
