Choices
-
To keep frustration away, take turns allowing each child to pick the game being played on family game night. Offer a variety of choices geared toward the age group of the child picking the game. Parents and older siblings can help younger children play, if needed. This is a terrific way to make family game night fun for everyone because everyone gets to choose from their favorite games when it's their turn.
Make It Physical
-
Think outside the box and choose a game designed to get you and your kids moving. Choose options like Charades or Twister for inside games. Head outside and play Freeze Tag, Hop Scotch or Simon Says in the yard. Not only will you and your family have a fun family game night, you may just be the inspiration for another neighboring family to start their own family game night.

Art
-
Bring out the art supplies and create an art piece with the entire family. Look at books ahead of time to decide what project to make. Talk about artists, artistic styles and what kind of project your family should do. Purchase the supplies and on family game night, complete the project together. Frame the art piece and display it proudly in your home.

Take the kids on a walk through the neighborhood or head to a local park and take a family hike. Turn it into a scavenger hunt. As you're walking, call out something for the kids to look for, like a bird, a fallen tree or certain colored flowers. When that object is pointed out, give the kids another object to look for. It's a great way to teach kids to look at their surroundings and it turns family game night into a way for everyone to get a little exercise.
