Whether you are a resident or a visitor, Colorado holds countless beautiful places to profess your love. Choose from a number of backdrops for the big moment, including mountain peaks, forests, white rivers and grasslands. Pick from one of the 42 state parks or four national parks to plan your proposal.
Royal Gorge Bridge and Park
The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park is located in Canon City, Colorado, and boasts a suspension bridge 1,178 feet above the Arkansas River. The bridge contains both a roadway and a walkway for pedestrians. The "Cliff Walk" is an area on the rim of the canyon where you can get married at a later date, after the proposal of course. You can also head to "Point Sublime," which offers a gazebo overlooking the canyon and the Arkansas River below. Pick a time at sunset or sunrise for a breathtaking view. Celebrate your engagement afterward at one of the fine dining restaurants on the south rim of the canyon.
Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park is a nature lover's dream and offers many beautiful locations to stage your proposal. You can spend the day fishing, kayaking, hiking, skiing or horseback riding. When it comes time to pop the question, climb one of the peaks, such as The Diamond, and ask your beloved to marry you looking out at the pristine wilderness. If you are less adventurous, take a drive to a scenic location in the park, such as Trail Ridge Road, which is the highest paved road in the U.S.
Head to Seven Falls and South Cheyenne Canyon to seal the deal. You can find the falls on the list of international waterfalls by National Geographic. Take the stairs or the elevator to the Eagle's Nest Observation Platform at the top for an unforgettable view. There are numerous canyons and peaks in the area, as well as hiking trails and picnic shelters. For lodging, stay at the prestigious Broodmoor Hotel located nearby.
Hot Air Balloon
Let your proposal take flight with a hot air balloon ride over the Colorado wilderness with Colorado Hot Air Balloon Rides (coloradoballoonrides.com). Depending on where you decide to launch, you can view the Rocky Mountains, the Continental Divide, Pikes Peak, the Front Range Mountains or the Flat Irons. The safest flying conditions are in the early morning, so you can watch the sunrise with your sweetie. The hot air balloon company offers a toast after the flight and two champagne glasses to take home with you as souvenirs. There's no need to worry about capturing the moment on camera -- you can get a DVD of the flight.
