Goals to Improve English
Learning to speak English is an important skill to acquire for many people in the world today. It is the first or second language spoken in many countries around the globe. There are several techniques the English-language learner can employ to improve his language skills. Setting goals for improving English language skills will help the learner to become a successful speaker and conversationalist.
-
Improve Pronunciation
-
Meet with an English language speaking group at a local community college or public library to practice pronunciation skills. Setting a goal to speak with a group on a daily or weekly basis to converse in English will help you improve your English skills.
Purchase an English dictionary with phonetic pronunciations and practice these daily. Meet with English-speaking friends or family members who can assist you with the correct pronunciation of English words and vocabulary. Also, practice pronouncing the 26 letters of the English alphabet to increase your pronunciation skills.
Practice Reading
-
Visit the children's section of your local public library and check out picture books in English to practice reading. This is how children learn to read and this will help you immensely in your English comprehension skills. When you are having trouble with the words, you may refer to the pictures for clues to the story and text. Practice with these books on a daily and weekly basis and you will progress to more complex English books and text as well as increase your English comprehension and reading skills.

If you are not sure of the meaning or spelling of English words, refer to your English dictionary. Keep a small pocket dictionary with you at all times and refer to it often.
