Before Prom Ideas

The hours before prom can be nerve-wracking. Instead of spending the day alone around the house, schedule activities to kick the night off early. By planning fun events for your group of friends, you can take some of the pressure off of the day and set a festive atmosphere early in the day.

Girls' Afternoon

  • Part of the fun of prom is the process of getting ready. On the day of the prom, get together early with your girlfriends and turn the afternoon into a relaxing, pampering session. Do manicures, pedicures, facials and experiment with different hairstyles. Set the mood by watching prom-themed movies or romance films. By spending time together, you can benefit from each person's beauty skills and provide a fun way to be together and quell pre-prom nerves.

Active Event

  • To work out the prom jitters, plan an active event that will give you something to do besides think about the evening to come. Gather your friends for a group event --- go to a sporting game together, go for a run or play paintball, for example. Look for something that will get your blood moving and make you feel energized. As a result, you will be more relaxed later in the day.

Photo Session

  • Photos are part of the prom fun, and will be a lasting memory of the evening. Before prom, schedule a photo shoot to create a variety of picture opportunities. Start at your home and go around to different locations, including scenic overlooks, local landmarks or unexpected places like junk yards or industrial parks. Take photos in different configurations, with couples, as a group, and try jumping pictures for an unexpected touch.

Group Dinner

  • Because many people go to prom with friends or as a group, dinner can be difficult to plan. Make it less awkward by planning a group dinner that will set a fun, exciting mood for the evening. Get together at one person's house for pictures and carpool to dinner and prom, either in a limo or in friends' cars. The group dynamic will create a relaxed setting that can take some of the pressure off and give your friends the chance to be together. If money is a consideration, hold the dinner at someone's house and have each person bring a dish.
