Barbie has been an American icon since the 1950s. Dressing up like Barbie is easy because Barbie has been seen in many incarnations, and you possibly have several of them on hand in your closet. If not, put together a Barbie costume easily by adding some of Barbie's trademarks to make her look unmistakable.
Fairies are the latest in a long line of different styles of Barbies. The fairy Barbie dolls wear sparkling outfits, have long, flowing tresses and large colorful wings. Emulate Barbie's fairy style by wearing a wig of any color, glittery face makeup, a leotard and skirt with tights, and shiny shoes. Add a pair of wings of any color and lots of colorful bracelets and necklaces to complete the Barbie fairy look.
A princess costume can be made to look a little more like something Barbie would wear by adding a long blond wig, tiara and classic Barbie makeup. Blue eyeshadow, red or pink lipstick and lots of mascara would provide a Barbie face for the princess costume. A glittery necklace that looks like diamonds will complete Barbie's princess ensemble.
Barbie has held many jobs over the decades. She has been a veterinarian, doctor, mother, chef, computer engineer and even an astronaut. Dress for one of these fields and add a long Barbie wig and Barbie makeup to look like a career-driven Barbie. Don't forget accessories like a spatula for Chef Barbie and a laptop case for Computer Engineer Barbie. Barbie has also been seen in a bridal gown.
"Toy Story" Barbie
Barbie appears in "Toy Story" as one of the main characters and provides comic relief with her wit and personality. She is seen wearing a leotard and tights that are turquoise and metallic, with a belt and striped legwarmers. Her blond hair is in a ponytail high on her head, and she is wearing the classic Barbie blue eyeshadow and bright pink lipstick.
Go retro with some Barbie looks from long ago. In the '80s, Barbie fronted a rock band called Barbie and the Rockers. She wore a white miniskirt, sparkly silver top and a hot pink jacket. She wore pink boots and had pink stripes in her hair. She came with a microphone and had wild, colorful makeup on. Another retro Barbie look is the classic Malibu Barbie. She is very tan and wears a turquoise bikini, a yellow wrap and sunglasses. Her hair is long and worn down with pink lipstick.
