The Objective of Training in HR Departments

The objective of training is to improve human performance. Whether in human resources or other areas of your company, the training department exists to make employees better at what they do. From new employees to the most senior management, all training must be designed to make people more skilled and better able to contribute to the bottom line. This is also a good way to measure the success of your training efforts: Did it positively impact profitability?

  1. Human Resources Training

    • The objective of training in human resources departments is for associates to master the knowledge in their chosen field of specialty. Some human resources associates concentrate in benefits. Learning how to design and develop benefits plans is their training objective. Other human resources associates specialize in labor relations. Their training objectives focus on labor law and negotiating skills. Other HR employees select a more general approach to their specialty, and their training objective is to learn more about the entire field of human resources.

    External Human Resources Training

    • Human resources professionals who wish to learn more about their field can turn to outside resources for assistance. Certification and testing are available through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which measures and tests knowledge in all areas of human resources. The objective for this program is to gain mastery of all HR subject areas to better manage and lead human resources departments. Colleges and universities offer degrees in many areas of human resources that allow participants to gain knowledge and experience and then provide services for your employees.

Human Resource Training for Your Organization

    • Training objectives for human resources in your organization must include a focus on your employees. Start by having a goal of proper treatment for all employees. Review all labor and equal opportunity laws, and train everyone how to maintain compliance. Privacy rules and regulations training must have the objective of maintaining complete compliance at all times. Proper disciplinary procedures courses need to be provided for all managers, with the objective of ensuring that every employee receives the opportunity to improve his performance.

    Realizing Your Training Objectives

    • Reaching your training objectives does not happen by accident. If the objective of training is to improve human performance, then providing that training is your first step. Setting clear and specific training expectations is also essential for success. Make your expectations observable and measurable so everyone understands when the expectation is met. Remove obstacles that get in the way of achieving your learning goals. Provide feedback about how well your employees are doing with their training objectives, and reward excellent training performance.
