Dresses That Add Curves
Curves are considered an expression of femininity. Not having them in today's society marks one as having a boyish figure. A boyish figure or a rectangle shape is when the hips, bust and waist are very close in size. (Shape Your Style) Dresses are one of the best clothing items for adding curves, especially when the trends are so feminine.

Pencil Dresses
-
A tight dress will accentuate every curve on your body. Try an elongated style rather than a mini, in brighter, solid colors. The smoother the fabric, the more curvy you will look. Having stretch in the fabric and some shine will further help to highlight larger areas, making you look more curvy. Add a body shaper undergarment for added curve.
A Poofy Skirt
-
A dress with a poofy skirt will add curves. The poof could be gathered tulle, pleats, a seam or any kind of shaping that releases at the waist. The bigger the volume, the curvier you will look. The top of the dress should be tight to create the look, and a padded bra will help to accentuate the curves on top. For additional drama, wear a shaper underneath the dress to firmly bind--or cinch--the waist.

A Voluminous Dress with a Belt
-
A bellowing sheath or shirt dress in a light, stiff fabric is the kiss of death for a straight figure, as it really hides any hint of a curve. Shopyourshape.com advises to "choose dresses with full skirts, fitted waists and cuts or embellishments that draw attention and add volume (or the illusion of volume) to your bust and shoulders." Add a neutral wide belt and all of a sudden you have curves. Place the dress at your natural waist and allow the dress to really bellow just above and just below the belt, adding maximum visual impact. A stiff fabric works best; organza, taffeta, crisp cotton sateen or poplin.
A Ruffled Style
-
A style with ruffles or fabric flowers strategically placed will give the illusion of a curve. The ruffles should be at the hip and bust, or on one side of the dress. The brighter the flowers, the better. The fabric details should be on a already slim silhouette; a tent style or shapeless style should be avoided at all costs.
