Baby Shower Themes & Gifts
Baby showers are the perfect occasion to give your best friend an abundance of gifts that will make her future baby's nursery come alive, along with some gifts that will have her even more excited about becoming a mother. As the baby shower's host, you should make guests aware of the theme as far in advance as possible, so they can bring presents that will make the shower even more enjoyable. Does this Spark an idea?

Winter Wonderland Shower
-
White, silver and gold should be the main colors for a shower with decorations that display the splendor of the winter season. A "winter wonderland" baby shower is ideal if winter is the mother-to-be's favorite season, or if her due date is in winter. A gold table runner on tables with white cloths, along with snow globes surrounded by synthetic flowers and ceramic baby blocks spray-painted in silver, will make for an impressive presentation. Encourage guests to bring gifts like crocheted hats and scarfs for the baby, as well as warm and cozy items that the guest of honor will enjoy, like a gift basket filled with gourmet coffees and teas, or a warm, plush bathrobe and fuzzy slippers.
Candy Shop Shower
-
Provide an array of sweet treats for the mommy-to-be and her guests by hosting a baby shower with a candy shop theme. Set up a booth for invitees to "order" the menu items they want, like candied apples, toffee and fudge, and oversized lollipops. Ask the loved ones helping you organize and serve at the party to wear aprons in light pink and purple as a nod to an old-time candy shop. Send guests home with pastel-colored gift bags filled with mini Tootsie Rolls and Charms Blow-Pops, along with decorated recipe cards with instructions for preparing decadent desserts at home. You can also present the guest of honor with a recipe book, giving her ideas for preparing sweet and savory foods for her new family. A gift basket of more sophisticated confections, like truffles, chocolate-covered fruits and cheesecake bites, is a gift an expectant mom with a sweet tooth will appreciate.

"Royal" Baby Shower
-
Make the mother-to-be queen for a day by throwing a shower with a royal theme. Decorate the chair she'll sit in with synthetic jewels and satin ribbons, and add decorative pillows to make her more comfortable. Adorn the shower space with rich blues and purples for the tablecloth, centerpieces and food trays, and fill vases with synthetic jewels in matching tones for an elegant touch. Gifts like onesies and bibs with images of prince or princess crowns for the baby are appropriate for this shower theme, as well as gift certificates to quality spas and restaurants in the city for the guest of honor, so she can receive the royal treatment during pregnancy.
Rubber Duckie Baby Shower
-
Unisex baby shower themes like the rubber duckie are best if the expectant mother doesn't yet want to reveal the sex of the baby. Line the center of the main table with rubber duckies atop a medium-blue tablecloth, and add small clear and iridescent balloons to the table to resemble bubbles. Ask your friends to bring the guest of honor bath-related items for her and the baby, like a caddy filled with baby bath toys and baby lotion, shampoo and perfume. Bath salts, a CD of nature sounds or instrumental music, and scented candles make wonderfully soothing bath-time presents for the mother-to-be.
