Can Kindle Still Sync With Wireless Off?

Amazon.com's Kindle e-reader can download, or sync, new books to its memory in mere moments, but it does require a wireless connection for this sync to take place. Turning the wireless on is a fast process that allows new items to sync as they are ordered.

  1. Turning Wireless On

    • The Kindle wireless must be turned on for syncing to occur. Kindle users can turn the Kindle wireless on by accessing the "Menu" button from the home screen, then selecting the "Turn Wireless On" option.

If Kindle users want to lengthen the time between Kindle recharges, the wireless can be switched off once the sync has occurred.

    Delivery of Downloads

    • Amazon.com delivers Kindle books and other reading materials via the Whispernet network. Any books purchased in the Kindle store will go to the Kindle device indicated immediately, provided wireless is enabled.

    Order of Downloads

    • The titles will sync to the Kindle in the order of purchase. The items purchased first will also be the first items to download, and the last item purchased will be the final item to sync to the Kindle. The items will appear on screen in order of download, with the first downloaded items appearing further back on the list and the most recent downloads appearing first on screen. Each new item will push the previous item further down the list of books.

    Syncing Time

    • The Whispernet wireless download service promises downloads in under 60 seconds. Syncing time will not be more than 60 seconds for each download.
