Which Banks Don't Use Check Systems?

Which Banks Don't Use Check Systems? thumbnail
Some banks do not check your credit before approving a checking account.

The majority of banks in the United States request a report from ChexSystems when someone applies for a new checking account. The ChexSystems report tells if the applicant has a history of delinquent banking activity. For example, if a checking account holder has unpaid overdraft fees, a ChexSystems report will show it. Negative information remains in a ChexSystems report up to five years. If you are having trouble getting a checking account, visit a bank that does not use ChexSystems.

  1. BBVA Compass

    • The Basic Checking Account offered by BBVA Compass is tailored for customers who have been denied a chance to get a checking account because of bad credit. This checking account can be opened with a $25 deposit, and there is no minimum balance requirement.

    Wells Fargo

    • Wells Fargo offers a checking account for credit-challenged customers as part of its Opportunity Package. This product works well for those willing to set up direct deposit with the Opportunity Checking account. Applicants must make a $100 minimum deposit.

    Woodforest National Bank

    • Woodforest National Bank offers Second Chance Checking to customers with negative ChexSystems reports. Most branches are located within Walmart stores and are open 364 days a year.

    Credit Unions

    • Many credit unions do not run ChexSystems reports before offering a new customer a checking account. Contact credit unions in your area, ask if you are eligible to join, and ask if you need a clear ChexSystems report before opening an account
