Ice Cream Sundae Dish Crafts

Ice cream sundae dishes might not be the first item someone thinks of when creating crafts but they come in a variety of sizes and shapes and can be used to make many different fun crafts that would make good gifts for family and friends.

  1. Table Centerpieces

    • Kitchen table centerpieces can be created with an ice cream sundae dish and clear, round, plastic ornaments. Remove the ornament tops and fill them with colored sand. Replace the tops. Place a thin layer of clear drying glue in the bottom of the dish. With the tops pointing down, gently press the ornaments into the glue. You can also apply a small amount of glue on top of the ornaments and place another ornament on top. Cut a piece of dark brown felt into an oblong, irregular shape and glue it over the top like hot fudge. Glue colorful sequins on the felt along with a red pompom for a cherry.

    Candy Dish

    • Ice cream sundae dishes make fun candy dishes to enjoy at home or give to friends and family. Cut out a piece of plastic to cover the top of a glass or plastic ice cream sundae dish. Fill the dish with wrapped candy. Place a small bead of hot glue around the rim of the dish and place the plastic on top. Curl several pieces of white ribbon so that when it is placed on top of the dish it will look like a large amount of whipped cream. Place a large amount of hot glue on top of the plastic cover and place the mound of white ribbon on top. Glue a red pompom on the top of the ribbon for a cherry and, if desired, push a straw in to the ribbon.

    Candles

    • Glass ice cream sundae dishes are just the right size for candles. Melt brown wax in a double boiler. Add chocolate fragrance, if desired. Meanwhile, place a small amount of hot glue in the bottom of the sundae dish and place the metal disk of a wick in the glue. Attach a clothespin to the wick and lay it across the dish, this will help keep the wick in place while you are pouring in the wax. Pour enough of the wax to fill the dish 1/4 of the way full. Let the wax cool completely. In a clean double boiler, melt pink wax and add strawberry or cherry fragrance. Pour the wax on top of the brown layer so the dish is 1/2 full and allow it to harden. Melt white wax and pour it over the pink layer. As the top layer is cooling you can put a few sprinkles on top.

    Pincushions

    • Ice cream sundae dishes make useful pincushions. Cut out an 8-inch, 5-inch and 2 1/2-inch circle from different colored materials. Stitch around the outer edge of each circle. Once you have stitched all the way around the material and are back to the starting point, pull the string to bring the edges inward. Fill the circles with batting. Pull the string tight and tie the ends in a double knot. Put a thin bead of hot glue around the bottom edge of the largest stuffed circle and place it in the bottom of the ice cream sundae dish. Push a straw down along one side. Place a small amount of glue on top of the material and gently push the medium sized stuffed circle on top. Repeat the following step with the smallest stuffed circle. Push several pins into the material.
