Things to Do With a Binder Clip

If you thought your binder clip is useful only to hold your documents together, think again. There are many tasks your binder clip can do. If you find your binder clips sitting idle on your work table or at home gathering dust, try out these new ways to use them. These techniques help you stay organized and save money as well. Come up with your own creative ideas to devise more uses for your binder clip.

  1. Improve your Grip

    • If you have a weak grip, or have conditions such as arthritis which lower your grip strength, use a big binder clip to build your grip strength. Fold back the handles of the clip and press them together. Hold the clip in this pressed position as you count until five and then release it. Repeat the activity at least 12 times on each hand. Do this several times a day. You can also release tension this way.

    Keep as Bookmarks

    • Instead of folding the page or turning the book down on the page you last read, use a binder clip of medium size as bookmark. If you are afraid that this would leave impressions on your favorite book, cover the jaw interiors with a tiny piece of soft cloth or tape.

    Use with Photos

    • How many times have you winced while pricking a hole in your family vacation photos to stick them to your bulletin board? Well, no more of that. Hold the photo with a tiny binder clip and suspend the clip from a bulletin board tack. You can use a soft cloth or tape between the clip jaws to avoid impression marks on the photo. Hanging photos from binder clips this way prevents damage to photos and makes it easy for your to change photos whenever you want to.

    Use as a Multi-Purpose Holder

    • Use a binder clip to fasten open chips, popcorn or other snack packets. Secure straying blind strings and wires. Use the binder clip to hold your paper money in a tidy bundle that is easy to access while shopping; just fold the wad of notes and clip the binder over the fold. Stick your ID to your belt or breast pocket with a binder clip for easy retrieval. This can be particularly helpful when you are traveling. As there will be regular ID checks at the airport, use the binder instead of wading through your purse pockets at every checkpoint.
