Whirlpool is an American consumer appliance company that sells its products under different brands, including KitchenAid, Whirlpool and Maytag. As of 2011, Whirlpool offers one series of front-loading washing machines, the Duet series. These washing machines are built to last for a long time, but you may still experience some minor problems with them. Avoid service fees, and repair these problems on your own.
If your Whirlpool front-loading washer is not starting, verify that the power cord fits snugly into the outlet. Never plug your washing machine into an extension cord or an adapter. Only use time-delay fuses with this washer. Select a washing cycle, and press "Start." Verify that the washer lid is completely closed. Check your household circuit breaker, and reset it if it's been tripped. Examine your fuses, and replace any blown fuses. The fuses are blown if they have broken wires or are black in color. If your washer still won't start, the lid switch may be blown, and you must replace it.
Not Draining or Filling
Check your drainage hose if your washing machine is not draining. Remove any limescale or debris in the hose, and verify that it is no more than 96 inches above the floor. Measure the drainage hose inside the washer tub. If it's longer than 4 inches, cut off the extra tube. If the tub is not filling, verify that the water supply valve is in the "On" position and that both of the faucets --- hot and cold --- are turned on. Check the inlet hose, and straighten it if it's bent. Remove any clogs from the hose and the filters.
Your Whirlpool washer may leak if you overload the washing machine. Water bounces off the load onto the floor. If you see water near the back of the washing machine, check the hose connections, and verify that the gasket seals are properly placed on either end of the hose. If water is dripping out of the water inlet valve, you must replace the component. If the tub itself is leaking, check the main tub seal and casing. Replace the tub seal if it's worn. Purchase a new washing machine if the tub is cracked.
Your washing machine normally makes noise. If you hear a vibrating sound, level the unit with shims, or fix the floor beneath the unit. If you hear a rattling sound, stop the load and remove any foreign objects such as coins or buttons.
If your washer detergent is not dissolving, use a waterproof thermometer, and verify that the water is above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. If not, increase the water temperature on your hot water heater. Always properly sort dark from light-colored clothing to reduce stains. To reduce wrinkling, do not overload your washing machine. Stop the load if your washing machine becomes unbalanced, and distribute the load evenly around the agitator.
Your Whirlpool washing machine may display an error code. You must press "Pause/Cancel" twice to stop the cycle, and then try to repair the problem. Common error codes generally include an "F," plus a number. The "F21" error code indicates that your water isn't draining properly. Check your drainage hose, and see if it's kinked or clogged. Verify that the drain hose is at the correct height. The "F20" error code means that your water pressure is either low or that your water supply faucets are not on. It may also indicate that your water inlet hose is kinked or clogged. To clear the "F20" and "F21" codes, you must also unplug the washing machine for a few seconds in addition to pressing "Pause/Cancel." The "F22" error code means that the washer door isn't completely closed. If you receive any other "F" error code, try clearing it. If it doesn't clear, call for service.
The "SUD" error code means that you used the wrong detergent, and the detergent is creating too many suds. Your washer automatically combats the suds problem. You don't have to do anything. The "dL" error means that your door won't lock, and the "dU" error means that the door won't unlock. Contact Whirlpool for service, as this means that you have a problem with your washer's door.
