Suit Ideas
Men dress to impress by wearing suits. The suits can be worn to a wedding, a funeral, a job interview or for happy hour. Buying a suit is a serious investment of both time and money. These following ideas can help you find the perfect suit and accessories.
-
Color
-
The black suit is the workhorse for men's closets. It can be mixed with a variety of button-down shirts, ties and dress shoes, or can be broken apart to wear the jacket with jeans. If you only own one suit, it should be a basic black suit, according to website The Morning News. If you are buying a few suits, pick blue and gray suits as well. A standard blue suit is navy blue. A gray suit easily holds a pattern, and can be purchased in a pinstripe to add variety to your suit collection.
Fit
-
Suits should fit your body perfectly, which is why most suits require tailoring. When you try on the jacket, be sure that its shoulders hug your shoulders. The cuffs of the jacket should hit at the hinge of your wrists. When you bend your elbow, you should be able to see a little bit of shirt sleeve, which allows you to add elegant cuff links to your suit. The jacket should button easily, without stretching. If you can loosely fit your fist between your chest and the jacket, it is too big.
Your pants should fit naturally on your hips, without requiring a belt or suspenders. Your pants should drape over and break slightly at the top of your shoes. Your socks should never show when you walk.

Buttons
-
There are one-, two-, three- and four-button jackets. Based on current trends, GQ recommends a two-button suit because it works well on any body type. The men's magazine says that three-button suits were the rage in the 1990s, and one-button suits made their mark in the 1980s. Four-button suits are rarely seen, and should only be worn by men who are very tall and slim.
Vents
-
Suit jackets have one vent in the center, or two vents on each side of the jacket. There are some ventless jackets, but GQ warns that this style is very outdated and should not be worn. The single vent jacket is preferred by American men, while the double-vented jackets are popular in England.
Accessories
-
Individualize your suit with accessories. Your tie or bow tie can say a lot about your character, and can completely change the look of your suit. You can add a pocket square, for which you should pick an unexpected shade that plays off a minor color in your jacket or tie. Cuff links make great accent pieces to show off your suit's perfect fit. Cuff links, a device that fastens together the sides of a shirt cuff, should only be visible when you bend your elbow, otherwise the jacket sleeves should cover your shirt cuffs.
There are two basic colors for men's dress shoes, black and brown. Within these two basic colors, you will find several styles that make the shoes trendy or traditional. You can choose dull or glossy finishes, laceups or slip-ons, wing tips and assorted embellishments. Keep in mind that the more basic the design of the shoe, the more versatile that shoe will be.
