Tips for Making Father's Day Cards for a Grandson
Giving a homemade Father's Day card can be a nice personal touch to celebrating Father's Day, and for a grandson, there are different types of Father's Day cards to make. Many grandsons have two grandfathers, one on mom's side of the family and one on dad's, but some grandsons have only one grandfather while others have more than two. Giving grandpa a Father's Day card shows love and respect for him, not just as a grandfather but as a father as well.

Make Each Card Unique
-
Consider the person the card is for. A Father's Day card for Grandpa, for example, will present a different message than a Father's Day card for Dad. Design the card to show something you share in common with the person the card is for. For example, if you go on fishing trips with Grandpa every summer, maybe design Grandpa's Father's Day card to show this common bond. Personalize the message to the recipient, such as changing "Father's Day" into "Grand-Father's Day" for your Grandpa's Father's Day card.
Use School Photographs
-
Every year kids have school photos taken. These can be a great addition to Father's Day cards, especially for a grandfather who may not get to see his grandson often. There are a couple of options for attaching a photo to a homemade card. You can use the corner brackets that are found with scrapbook supplies to mount the photo to the card; slip a corner bracket over each corner of the photo, carefully holding them in place then press the sticky side down into position in the card. This allows the photo to be removed for framing or carrying in a wallet. You can use acid-free scrapbook tape to attach to photo to the card as well, or simply put a dab from a glue stick or rubber cement on the back and press into place.
As an alternative, you can use a photo of grandson and grandfather together, if school photos are not an option or if there is a particular favorite photo that would be nicer for the card.

Say More with a Personal Message
-
Consider things you share with the person you will give the Father's Day card to, as well as how you feel about them and how important they are to you. For a grandson, there may be several different cards to write in such as one for Dad, one for Grandpa on Dad's side of the family and one for Grandpa on Mom's side of the family, among others. Make the message in each card different, to show how each person you give a card do is special and different from each other. For example, perhaps Mom's father is into barbecues and sports but Dad's father is into fishing and camping; make the designs and the messages of the cards specific for each person. Write the message down on a separate paper for practice, then write it neatly on a separate piece of paper and cut it out then paste into the card.
Non-Traditional Families
-
For grandsons in non-traditional families, Father's Day can be tricky. Father's Day cards may go to grandpa on mom's side of the family, grandpa on dad's side of the family, a step-grandfather if one or both parents remarried and so forth. A Father's Day card for a step-grandfather can help make him feel like an important member of the new family unit. It's important to remember non-traditional families are normal too and you can give a Father's Day card to anyone you want. Design the card to show something special or some shared interest with the recipient and write a personalized message telling them they are important too.
