Dust mites can cause allergic reactions.

Dust mites are microscopic pests that infest homes and feed on dead human skin. They are actually tiny arachnids with a typical life span is about one month. While they rarely present serious health threats, dust mites can be nuisances. Contrary to popular belief, dust mites do not actually "bite" human skin, but allergic reactions to contact with the mites can provoke uncomfortable symptoms.

  1. Respiratory Problems

    • Dust mites can provoke allergic reactions in certain people that manifest in respiratory symptoms. This includes wheezing, coughing, sneezing, and difficulty breathing.

    Itching

    • Dust mites can cause itching of both the skin and eyes. They may also cause the eyes to water.

    Skin Rash

    • In some cases, a reaction to dust mites might provoke a visible rash on the skin. The rash may be red and itchy; however, it's advisable to avoid scratching, as doing so could create a risk of infection.

    Asthma Attacks

    • Asthma sufferers might be at risk of an asthma attack as a result of dust mites. The dust mite allergens can provoke an attack and exacerbate asthma symptoms.
