Homemade Zombie Costume Ideas
It does not take a lot of material or talent to create a zombie costume at home. Zombies traditionally are dead, mindless people walking around. It is a matter of taking what you already have, altering it to suit what you have in mind and buying a few items to complete the look. You do not have to spend a fortune and buy it in a store or get someone else to do it for you.

Modern Zombie
-
You have to buy very little clothing for this zombie. Use some of your old clothes that you only wear for work, or have been packed in boxes for a while. You might have to alter them. You can do this by shredding pieces of the clothes, placing big holes in them and just getting them dirty. Wear some dirty shoes. The amount of makeup you will need depends on how dead you want to look.
Period Zombie
-
If you have a love of historical periods and already have a costume fitting that time, you can create a zombie costume. This is a fun twist, especially when you know about the history of the era. One example could be a medieval woman who died of the plague or a medieval man who got his throat cut. The clothing back then was simple. Even if you don't have it already, you can easily make it. Another example could be a hippie who died of a drug overdose or a Vietnam soldier who died in the jungle.

Freshly Dead
-
Use makeup to get the dead look. If you want to look freshly dead, like you just fell off a building, you do not need to use a lot of makeup. The two main makeup ingredients to use would be liquid latex and fake blood. The liquid latex will give your exposed skin some texture, such as pieces of flesh hanging from your face or exposed arm. The blood will complete the look.
Dead Awhile
-
Here is where you can really get creative, but it requires more makeup. Use liquid latex for the texture. Use white face paint, mixed with natural colored makeup foundation to give your skin a more natural look. Using just the white face paint will make it look too fake. After you give your skin a dead look with the blended paint, start using green, blue, purple, yellow and black eye shadows for bruises. Use black paint or eye shadow around the eyes and cheeks for a sallow look. Use red or pink paint or blush powders to blotch around your eyes, nose and lips for an additional dead effect.
