Oregon Scholarships for Women
Oregon women who need financial help to attend college will find many scholarships for which they can apply. One good place to start is the college you want to attend, as it will know about local scholarships that are available. Another good place to check for scholarships is with professional women's associations. Such associations want to promote more women entering the profession and offer a variety of scholarships to accomplish this.

Society of Women Engineers
-
Two chapters of the Society of Women Engineers, Willamette Valley and Columbia River, offer scholarships for women who want to pursue careers in engineering. The Willamette Valley chapter offers the $1,000 Martina Testa Memorial Scholarship for entering freshmen. This scholarship is named after one of the chapter's founding members. Applicants must have attended high schools in the Willamette Valley or central Oregon coast region.
The Columbia River chapter offers two scholarships for students who attend the University of Portland, Portland State University or the Oregon Institute of Technology. One, for $1,000, is for women who belong to student chapters. The other, for $300, is for community college students who want to transfer to an engineering program at a four-year college.
American Association of University Women
-
The Corvallis chapter of the American Association of University Women offers two scholarships to women 25 or older who live in Linn or Benton counties. One scholarship is for $750 for a woman to attend Linn Benton Community College in Albany, while the $1,000 scholarship goes to a woman attending Oregon State University at Corvallis. Application requirements call for women to write a two-page essay about career goals, life experiences and challenges.

Women Helping Women
-
The Oregon Community Foundation awards the Women Helping Women Scholarship, which was the result of some Portland women meeting to discuss popular topics of the day. They decided to raise money for scholarships for women and eventually turned the money over to the Oregon Community Foundation, the group's website says. Scholarship applications need to be submitted through the Oregon Student Assistance Commission. The foundation says preference is given to women who are active in community service and have overcome hardships in life.
Gamma Alpha Omega
-
The Oregon State University chapter of the Gamma Alpha Omega sorority sponsors one scholarship annually that is aimed primarily at Latina women or women of other minorities, though the group's website says men are welcome to apply. Applicants must be attending Oregon State University or high school seniors enrolling in the fall. Financial need is not a criteria for this scholarship, the group says, noting that selection will be based on grades, leadership and involvement in school and community activities.
