Features of Google Maps
Google Maps is an online mapping service that contains a variety of features, such as turn-by-turn directions to any address within its coverage area. Google introduced Google Maps in the United States in 2005 and has subsequently released versions throughout the world. Since its launch, Google Maps has added several features to help users get from here to there.

Directions
-
One of the most basic functions of Google Maps is its directions feature, which provides driving instructions from one point to another. Google provides multiple ways to use this feature, including typing "from" and "to" content into the Google Maps search field. For instance, if you are looking for driving directions from Las Vegas to Miami, type "from Las Vegas to Miami" in the search field and click "Search Maps." This feature may also be used by clicking "Get Directions" from the Google Maps homepage, then providing a starting and ending location. Using the "Get Directions" link from any Google Maps information window or by right-clicking any map point also gives access to this feature.
Street View
-
For certain locations, Google Maps provides its "Street View" feature, which displays street-level still images of specific locations. To activate Street View, drag and drop the miniature-man graphic that sits atop the map's zoom-in/zoom-out tool directly to the area you wish to view. If the man icon is yellow, Street View is available for the area being viewed on the map. You can also use the Google Maps' zoom-in function to the lowest level to enter Street View mode. Once in, Google Maps offers 360-degree views of the neighborhood of interest and progress through the area step-by-step by using the white directional arrows that appear at the bottom of the images.

Map Views
-
Google Maps can be viewed in 2-D illustrated, satellite view or 3-D photographic modes. Standard 2-D map viewing is the default setting and can be changed by clicking the Satellite or Earth icons that appear in the upper right corner of the map. To view maps using the 3-D Google Earth application, you must download and install a special plug-in. Map view features come in a variety of modes, including webcam, real-time traffic flow and terrain. These views are activated by choosing a mode that appears while hovering your mouse over the Satellite, Earth or Map icons.
Miscellaneous Features
-
Travel routes provided by Google Maps can be edited by clicking one of the white dots that appear along the suggested route of travel and dragging it to a spot on a different road or highway. The map will readjust the route and provide updated directions and mileage information. Walking, public transit and biking directions are other features of Google Maps. To use these features, click the bike, bus or pedestrian icons that appear when using the Get Directions feature, then proceed as described earlier.
