Easy Halloween Costumes of the 1980s
Dressing like you walked out of the decade of excess doesn't have to be difficult. In fact, you may be able to pull together some things from your closet for an '80s-inspired costume. The '80s were all about bright, bold and big, whether it was hair, clothing or makeup. Embody the '80s by pulling together a simple costume.

Video Girl
-
Beautiful dancing women provided backup for the popular rock singer Robert Palmer in most of his videos, including the hit "Simply Irresistible." All of the women dressed in a little black dress, black pantyhose and black high heels. These are all easy items to come by that you may already have. The models in the video have an orange scarf or belt tied around their waist, have slicked back hair in a low bun at the nape of the neck, and black, smokey eye shadow. Finish the look with bold red glossy lipstick and sway back and forth for authenticity.
The Preppy
-
The preppy look was a mainstay in the '80s and shows up in almost every movie, from the rich kids in "Pretty in Pink" to the mean guys in "The Karate Kid." Men or women can rock this look, because all you need is a polo shirt on top, and khaki pants or a skirt on the bottom. Add sneakers or loafers, feathered hair, matching jewelry and those socks with the balls on the ends and you're all set. For women, conservative makeup, a headband, pearl necklace and frosty pink lipstick would work. Feather your hair if you're a male, and add a class ring and letterman jacket.

Rock Star
-
For a simple rock star costume, go as Bruce Springsteen. The working class Springsteen was famous for a white T-shirt and torn jeans, complete with bandanna around his forehead or coming out of his pocket. For women, Madonna was the height of fashion. She walked around in lingerie so grab a black slip and add a huge hair bow and some cross necklaces, and fishnet stockings. Top it off with heels and lots of bright makeup. Another rock star option is the hair band member, singers known for the volume of their hair. Rock bands such as Poison and Motley Crue wore more makeup than their female counterparts. Tease your hair and pile on the hairspray, wear leather pants or very torn jeans held together with safety pins, makeup, sunglasses and some scarves.
Let's Get Physical
-
The aerobics and fitness craze was at an all-time high in the '80s. Movies like "Flashdance" and songs like "Physical" fueled the clothing style of this hobby. Women wore brightly colored leotards, tights, legwarmers and sweatbands. Put on some sneakers and an off-the-shoulder, torn sweatshirt and you have the look. Add a side ponytail to really go retro. Men wore track shorts with white lines running up the sides, the tube socks that went up to the knees, sneakers, corny T-shirts with slogans on them, and mesh baseball caps.
