Cool Prom Ideas
Prom planners may find it extremely difficult to narrow down their ideas for such a highly anticipated event. To create a memorable prom that leaves students and faculty happy, details such as theme, music choices and decorations must be considered.

Student Participation
-
Before deciding on a theme for the prom, try mining other students in school for ideas. Hold a contest where students can submit a proposal for an original theme, and the winner can help pick specific decorations or be mentioned on prom night by the DJ or band. Involving peers in the decision-making process will not only increase the feeling of union and participation, it will also generate fresh ideas for prom night.
Time Travel
-
Basing the prom around a different era in time is an easy way to create a fun ambience and a memorable atmosphere. The roaring '20s gives itself to elegant dresses for the girls and classic gangster garb for the guys, along with swing dance music. Old-timey decorations with peacock feathers and old-fashioned tables add to the theme and are inexpensive. Another popular era would be the '70s and '80s for a retro theme. Disco balls and music, along with sparkles and glitter, can help set the mood.

Dream Themes
-
Dreams and fantasy work well as inexpensive prom themes. Clouds made of papier mache or cotton material can be placed high up toward the ceiling along with reflective stars and dark blue or purple fabrics. By adding a fog machine and some electronic music, you'll heighten the mood.
Faraway Places
-
A great way to transform a gym into an exotic setting is to decorate it as a distant place. By making the theme "Paris" you can arrange decorations like a painted cardboard model of the Eiffel Tower in the background and romantic candlelight at the tables. A tropical setting such as Hawaii is another fun and romantic choice. Tiki wall decorations and floral arrangements or leis can add more personality.
