What Browsers Does Silverlight Support?

Silverlight is a software tool created by Microsoft to deliver rich media experiences on the Internet. The current version of Silverlight is version 4, called Silverlight 4, at the time of publication. Silverlight 4 supports many of the major modern Web browsers. However, it does not support all operating systems.

Internet Explorer 8 & Chrome 4

  • Microsoft Silverlight supports Internet Explorer 8 and Chrome 4 on five different operating systems. At the time of publication, Microsoft supports Silverlight on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP3, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Internet Explorer 7

  • Silverlight works with Internet Explorer 7 on only three different operating systems. Microsoft supports Silverlight on Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP3 and Windows Server 2008.

Internet Explorer 6

  • Microsoft supports Internet Explorer 6 running Silverlight on three different operating systems: Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP3, Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows Server 2003.

Firefox 3

  • Firefox 3 is the browser supported by Microsoft Silverlight on the most operating systems. Firefox 3 and Silverlight work on both PC and Macintosh computers. Firefox 3 with Silverlight works on six operating systems: Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP3, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Intel-based Macintosh OS 10.4.11.

Safari 3

  • Microsoft Silverlight also supports Safari 3 running on Macintosh computers. The only operating system that is compatible with Safari 3 with Silverlight is the Intel-based Macintosh OS 10.4.11.
