VBS Construction Theme Crafts
A construction theme is a popular choice for Vacation Bible School because it teaches kids that God is the ultimate builder and creator. It also can show children that their lives are under construction in God's great plan. Whatever your angle, you'll need fun and easy crafts to reinforce your lessons.

Christian Worker's Tool Belt
-
These tool belts are actually plain canvas waist aprons with pockets that kids will decorate with images of tools. Buy the aprons in bulk from a craft supplier or ask your local hardware store if it can donate spare aprons. Pour washable paint onto sturdy plates. Give children paintbrushes, shaped sponges and stencils so they can paint their aprons. Let the younger children use markers for their aprons. Draw pictures of tools and write each child's name on the apron.
God Made Me Poster
-
Teach kids that God made them unique. Give each child a 5-foot piece of butcher paper. Tell them to spread out and put their papers on the floor. Pair each child with a partner. One child lies down on the butcher paper while the other traces the outline of his partner's body with a pencil. With markers, show children how to write "God Made Me" at the top of their papers and draw a yellow measuring tape along the right side of the paper. Remind them that we must measure our behavior by what Scripture teaches. Let children trace over the pencil outline of their bodies with markers and draw their face, hair and clothing.

Busy Bee Magnets
-
The idea of a busy bee ties seamlessly into a construction theme because it's a symbol of hard work and its yellow and black colors look like caution tape. Give each child a spring-hinged wooden clothespin. With markers or paint, show kids how to color the clothespin to look like a bee, with the head at the end with the spring. Fold a coffee filter in a fan pattern, and pinch it at the center to form wings. Pin the center of the coffee filter with the clothespin, and place a self-adhesive magnetic strip on the back of the clothespin.
Signs from God
-
This door hanger reminds kids that God should direct their lives. From construction paper or card stock, cut out three types of safety signs: a triangular "Yield" sign, a red-and-white "No" sign (a circle with a diagonal line through it) and a "Walk" sign. Make one sign of each type for each child. On the "Yield" sign, show kids how to write "Yield to God's Word." On the "No" sign, tell kids to write "Say No to Evil." On the "Walk" sign, have them write "Walk God's Way." Cut a long piece of yarn for each child, tie a loop at one end so it can hang on a doorknob, and let children tape the three signs to the string.
