First Day of School Scrapbooking Page Layout Ideas

Enhance the first day of school experience by including the child in the scrapbook layout process.

The first day of school is an important milestone in the life of every child and parent. Documenting that first day is a meaningful way to mark the occasion and create a lasting memory. From capturing pictures of a child's first bus ride to saving a child's first poem or other school writing assignment, parents can incorporate images and text into a school-themed scrapbook page that will celebrate the experience.

Golden School Days

Incorporate vintage images of school children into a Golden School Days themed scrapbook page.

Create a vintage look by laying out a Golden School Days theme. Border the page with vintage images of school children dressed in the wide collars and suspenders of yesteryear. Select four photos of the featured kids boarding the bus, showing off new backpacks or standing outside the school. Frame the photos with gold-colored or or glittery-gold squares of paper and arrange evenly on the page in two rows. Use a gold-toned pen to label the page.

Chalkboard

Use slate-colored paper and a white pen to create a chalkboard themed scrapbook page.

Select a slate-colored piece of paper for the background. Write "First Day of School" on the page's top right quadrant with a white marker, eliciting the style of white chalk on a classic chalkboard. Place three back-to-school photos in the other three quadrants of the page. Tilt the photos askew before taping down. Journal about the photos in a fine-tipped white pen. Affix chalkboard-themed stickers randomly around the page, including stickers of erasers or boxes of chalk.

Schoolwork

Document the child's first day of school with a selection of his or her writing or artwork.

Select a wood grain background for the page to elicit the feeling of a school desk. Ask the child to write his or her name on a piece of lined writing paper and affix at the top of the page. Enlarge a first-day-of-school photo of the child and choose a matting that picks up on the color of the child's new backpack or school uniform. Tape on the left side of the page. Trim an example of the child's writing from the first week of school and tape it opposite the photo.

Lists

Document the culture of the time by adding a list of "favorites" to any layout. Write out a list, for example, of the child's first friends, favorite song or movie, as well as cultural markers, such as the name of the president or the top items in the news.
