Teach youth significant Christian principles with fun bulletin boards.

Bulletin boards create an opportunity to offer helpful information through colorful images and phrases. Get children curious about information expressed on the boards by allowing them to help craft them in Sunday school class. Display an idea box in the fellowship hall and encourage adult parishioners to contribute ideas as well. Explain to little ones that black and white boards reflect the basic principles of good versus evil and how good always wins out in the end.

  1. Cowboy Ten Commandments

    • The lively Ten Cowboy Commandments bulletin board offers a fun take on the ideas behind the original Ten Commandments, and is simple to make. Begin by covering the board in white and trimming all four borders in tan. In black lettering place "The Ten Cowboy" across the top, including two construction paper horseshoes in between words. Center the word "Commandments" across the bottom in black and add a boot on either side. On white paper list the ten commandments in language that reflects cowboy speak -- "Honor Yer Ma and Pa" and "No Killin,'" for example -- and affix it to the center of the board. Add red bandannas and hats if desired.

    Everlasting Jesus

    • Convey to youth and adults alike the significance of Jesus' everlasting love any time of year. Cut older and newer newspapers into border trim and affix it around the board's edges. Cover the board in black. Affix white border trim from the top stretching to the bottom to designate three equal-sized sections. Use stencils to shape the phrase "Jesus the Same, Yesterday, Today, Forever" and attach two words in each rectangle. Lastly, glue a large black and white Jesus image into the center of each space.

    God's Tool Belt

    • Teach curious minds about the love and grace of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit by creating a God's Tool Belt bulletin board. Begin by covering the board in black and adding the phrase "God's Tool Belt" in white letters across the top. Fill in large white bubble letters with identical thin black ones for added effect. Cut a multi-pocket tool belt out of black felt and affix it to the center of board. In each pocket insert a different word. "Grace," "love," "faith," "understanding," "compassion" and "Bible" all apply. Symbols of these words are another option.

    New Year Hope for Kids

    • Celebrate hope and unlimited potential in the New Year with a bulletin board that speaks to kids. Cover the board in white, adding black trim along all sides. Make or buy cardboard penguins. Add red Santa hats and smiley faces as desired. Arrange a dozen penguins in a straight line. Have each child write his name across a penguin. If more than 12 children are participating, make penguin families instead of individual penguins, designating one penguin per unit to each child. Write an applicable Bible verse in permanent black marker across the top of the board. Examples include Jonah 1:12-13 and Matthew 9:17, which both address newness.
