Melted Snowman Crafts for Kids
Kids love making snowmen in the winter. Take the fun indoors by making crafts that look like melted snowmen. These projects are easy, but they can be messy, so be sure to protect kids' clothing and have baby wipes handy to clean messy fingers.
-
School Glue Snowman
-
This traditional melted snowman craft starts with a white Styrofoam ball. Instruct your child use markers to draw a snowman's face on the ball. Lay a piece of wax paper on a table. Have your child squeeze a puddle of regular school glue onto the wax paper. Let your child place the Styrofoam ball on the glue puddle. Tell your child to stick two small twigs in either side of the puddle to represent Frosty's arms. If desired, cut a long rectangle from a piece of scrap fabric and let your child put it on the puddle to look like a scarf. When the glue dries, peel off the wax paper.
Melted Snowman Cookies
-
Let children help you prepare your favorite sugar cookie and icing recipes. Together, roll 2-inch dough balls and flatten them on a cookie sheet with your fingers. Make them a little lumpy and uneven. Bake the cookies. After they've cooled, spread the white icing over the tops, letting it drip down the sides. Grease a glass plate and put large marshmallows on it, one for each cookie. Microwave for about 10 to 20 seconds until they begin to puff. Place one marshmallow on each cookie. Using store-bought decorative icing tubes, draw snowman faces on the marshmallows and stick arms, scarves and buttons on the cookie icing.

Snowman in a Bottle
-
Use a recycled plastic water bottle for this silly craft. Help children remove the paper label from the water bottle, and fill it about two-thirds full of water. Add a splash of white vinegar. Let children cut seven small circles from a black foam sheet, which represent coals. Help kids cut a thin triangle from an orange foam sheet to make the carrot nose. If desired, cut two mittens from a foam sheet. Let kids put all the foam shapes in the water bottle, and add white rainbow glitter. Replace the water bottle cap and tie a colorful ribbon around it.
Melted Snowman Ornament
-
This craft requires a hot glue gun, so make sure kids know not to touch it. Show kids how to cut a 6-inch piece of white ribbon and tie it together to form a loop. This will be the ornament's hanger. Lay the loop on a piece of wax paper, and squeeze a puddle of hot glue over one end of the loop. Don't let kids operate the glue gun, but let them tell you when to stop pouring the glue. While the glue is still hot, let kids carefully place black seed beads on the puddle in the shape of a face. Cut a small piece of orange pipe cleaner to represent the carrot nose, and let kids place it on the ornament. When dry, peel off the wax paper.
