High Speed Internet Services for Businesses

If you own a business, having a high-speed Internet connection is almost a must in the 21st century. Not only does it give you a quick and easy way to connect with your customers and clients. It also allows you file digital paperwork, complete banking transactions, back up data and more. Many companies, including Comcast, Verizon and AT&T just to name a few, offer special high-speed Internet packages for businesses. The packages often include multiple company email accounts, online data backup and download speeds that are faster than the residential packages.

  1. Speed

    • High-speed Internet service is much faster than dial-up. Depending on the service provider's available Internet packages, high-speed Internet can run at speeds between 3 megabytes per second (Mbps) and 100 Mbps. Faster download speeds often mean higher prices.

    Email

    • High-speed Internet packages for businesses often include multiple email accounts. This can range anywhere from four company accounts up to 10 or even 20, depending on the service provider. The company email accounts are controlled by the administrator account, which is chosen by the business at the time of purchase. The administrator account is often registered to the owner of the company, the CEO or the manager. The secondary accounts are intended for use by other employees, including secretaries, salespeople, computer technicians and customer service representatives.

    Data Storage & Security

    • Online data storage is sometimes offered with high-speed Internet business packages. Companies can upload data, such as documents, PDFs, PowerPoint presentations and other files to a dedicated server operated by the service provider. The data is stored and accessed via the Internet; it is not stored on the company computers. If the company computers crash, the data is not permanently lost as long as it is backed up on the service provider's dedicated server. Internet security software, such as McAfee or Norton Anti-Virus, is included in business packages at no extra cost.

    Bundles

    • Some businesses that want Internet services may also want television and phone service as well. Bars, restaurants, airports and hospitals often have televisions and phones that are available for use by their customers. To save money, these businesses can bundle their services into one consolidated monthly bill. Many companies offer high-speed Internet services as part of a bundle, which is a package that includes high-speed Internet, phone and TV services. Bundles are sold as a group, which lowers the cost for each individual service. Certain restrictions apply in some cases. For example, premium (or movie) channels may have to be purchased in order to include TV services with the bundle.

    Availability

    • Business packages are not offered in every area by every telecommunications company. Some companies don't do business nationwide, while others just don't offer business services in certain areas.
