Binder Organization Checklist
Binders make great aids to help students keep all of their important papers in one place to prevent losing or misplacing them. Students function better in organization than having all of their papers scattered all over the place. Teachers generally spend the first day of school showing students how to organize their binders. Students who have organized binders tend to be more prepared for class than students who have papers in different places.

Binder Identification
-
Purchase binder dividers to separate the different sections of the binder. In general, students need five to seven dividers. Make and label the binders with the student and subject names. Students can be creative with their binders in terms of decorating them; however, students should ensure that the binders fall within the guidelines of their teacher.
Completed Work Section
-
Create a completed work section in each subject's binder. Once the student completes homework sheets or writing assignments, he should hole punch them and insert them in the competed homework section of the binder. This ensures that the homework is in place to turn in on the due date.
-
Graded Work Section
-
Create a graded work section in each subject binder. Once the teacher grades tests, quizzes, homework and class work, students can place the graded work in the appropriate section. Teachers may require students to have the graded work signed by their parents. Since all of the graded assignments are located in one place, the parent can monitor the student's academic progress.
Planner Section
-
Insert an actual planner in the binder. If desired, a regular monthly calendar can be inserted in the binder to record when assignments are due, tests dates and project timelines. Students can also write special dates in the binder, such as field trips, guest speakers and days out of school. The student should include the class schedule to ensure that they attend the right classes on the right days.
