Cigar Box Crafts
Old cigar boxes prove useful in many craft projects. Whether you have old cigar boxes around your home or you purchase them, cigar boxes make decorative and useful items around your home. With just a few extra crafting materials, make a dry bean box, decoupage cigar box, supply box or cigar box bank.
-
Dry Bean Box
-
With craft paint, paint the outside of a cigar box and allow the box to dry completely. With dry pinto beans, or any other type of dry bean you want to use, outline a design on the top of the box. Use craft glue to attach each bean to the box. Allow the glue to dry and add any additional decorations to your box, such as ribbon along the outer edges.
Decoupage Cigar Box
-
Cut out images from magazines to create a theme for your decorative decoupage cigar box. You may choose to do an animal theme, flower theme or patriotic theme. Once you have cut out enough images to completely cover your cigar box, arrange the images on the top of the box and cover with decoupage glue. Allow the top to dry. Turn the box over on one of its sides and repeat this process, allowing each side to dry completely before moving on to another side of the box.

Supply Box
-
Divide a wooden cigar box into compartments for storing useful items, such as buttons, rubber bands, paper clips and push pins. Using a ruler or tape measure, measure across the inside of the box between the two shorter ends to make two long, narrow sections in the box. With a hand saw, cut a piece of balsa wood to fit your dimensions. Sand any excess wood off the ends to help make a perfect fit. Glue the edges of the balsa wood in place with wood glue. To make more sections, continue the process of measuring from the center piece of balsa wood to the edges of the inside of the box. Decorate the outside of your supply box with craft paint or other embellishments.
Cigar Box Bank
-
Use a utility knife to cut a rectangular hole 2 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide in the center of a cardboard cigar box top. Paint the outside of the cigar box with craft paint and allow to dry. From old magazines, cut out images of coins, paper money and dollar signs. Place these images along the sides and top of the box making sure not to cover the hole. Attach the images by spreading decoupage glue over them, then allow to dry.
